Sandburg Women Split Pair of Close Games to Finish Regular Season

DES PLAINES — The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball closed its regular season by splitting a pair of one-possession games on a weekend road trip to Sauk Valley and Oakton.

SANDBURG 59, SAUK VALLEY 57
Kelsi Legge (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) knocked in the go-ahead free throws with 1:10 to go, giving the Chargers a victory in their final Arrowhead Conference game of the season Friday night. Trailing 57-56, Legge was fouled going to the basket and connected on both foul shots to put Sandburg ahead. It was the third victory in the last four conference games for the Chargers.

Legge finished with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, and Addison Eger (Mendon, Ill./Unity) put up a team-high 26 points for the Chargers. The sophomore was 10 of 17 from the field, hit 2 of her 4 3-point attempts, went 4 for 5 from the stripe and had three steals.

Freshman forward Mattie Lower (Aledo, Ill./Rockridge) was a force on the defensive end, blocking 12 shots in the contest. It was the second double-digit block effort by Lower, who had 15 in Sandburg’s Nov. 20 win at Madison.

OAKTON 61, SANDBURG 58
The Chargers were on the short end of a one-possession game Saturday at Oakton. Sandburg (5-19, 3-7) had the ball with a chance to tie with :02 left but was unable to get a shot off.

Eger scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Chargers. Freshman forward Lillianna Blackford (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) put up a season-best 12 points in the loss, with eight of those coming in the first quarter.
